Subject: historical stuff
Hello there Paul and welcome to 2010
Love the new look web site. Out of pure vanity, I must confess to
winning First Grade "Best Back" trophy in 1965 and being club
secretary in 1968 In the 'who introduced them" section, I was head
hunted from Glenelg (now Brighton) by Sid Feldheim (another David Rogers
recruit) in 1964 and I was responsible for introducing winning club coach,
Bob Forbes, to the club the following year. Bob and I worked together.
Ergo, David Rogers has much to answer for!
Regards

Thanks David. I've added in the information.
I've absolutely nothing on who was doing what in 1965. Would you remember
anything about who was club prez, club captain & so on that year? And any
other year for that matter. For 1968 I'd had Rod Essery as club secretary.
I've left his name in there along with yours because I'd like to track down
my source for this, which I suspect may have been the honours board. Likewise
with 1968, do you recall who was doing what then?
With the 'who introduced who' section, I'd really love to get that going,
but I rarely get any responses. It'd be good to have so much data, I'd have
to create a visio diagram just to show the links (yes, ok, whatever gets one
going ...). I can see that there will soon be the need for a genealogical
chart though, the way everyone is marrying into the club.

Hello again
More snippets:
1964 president Colin Runge, secretary Bob Henderson, treasurer Jack (?)
Forde, coach Mick Hone
1965 president Bert Rogers, secretary David Wright, treasurer Cyril
Holdich, Captain/coach Bob Forbes
(Bob broke his leg in a trial game against 3RAR and I filled in as C/C for
the first half of the season. Unfortunately, during my time as c/c, we were
demoted to 2nd Division but, under Bob's guidance we went on to a Div2
premiership and promotion back to the 1s in 66.)
1966 pres Bert Rogers, Sec Rod Essery, Treasurer Cyril Holditch, c/c
Bob Forbes
1967 pres Hartley Brimelow, Sec Rod Essery, Treasurer Cyril Holditch,
c/c Bob Forbes
1968 pres Bert Rogers, sec David Quodling, treasurer Cyril, c/c
Bob.
Barry levy became Secretary in 69 and I think Barney Hancock was elected
President. Cyril was treasurer for many years. He was responsible for
"straightening out" the club's finances and getting the club back
on a financial footing. I believe Cyril was treasurer until his untimely
death in the early 80s.
hope this helps a bit. I'll forward more info as it comes to mind

From Ben
Rutherford to Kim Evans January 2010:
G’day Kim
I played with the 2nds and 4ths in 2001 and 2002 and
have been working overseas for the most part since. I thought the club might
be interested to know that an Old Coll has made it to rugby HQ as I am about
to start work next year at the IRB as one of their in-house counsel over in
Ireland.
Can’t guarantee the return of running rugby worldwide but am at least
hoping to be a better rugby lawyer than I was a player!!
Any Old Colls over there at any stage welcome to meet up for a pint and a
rugger chat or even a match hopefully.
Keep up the good work back at Old Colls, enjoy getting the e-newsletters.
Cheers, Ben
